Key achievements

Mohammad Ishaq “Mo” Chaudry was born in 1960, in the Rawalpindi district of Pakistan.

He came to England aged nine, originally to Luton, and then to Shropshire when his father began a retail business.

Mo won a place at Wellington Grammar School, and later attended New College, Telford, where he passed his O-levels and A-levels. He graduated with a degree in Sports Science from Madeley College of Physical Education, part of the then North Staffordshire Polytechnic, now Staffordshire University.

After graduating, Mo started work for the financial services industry as an insurance canvasser. With an ethos of helping customers, rather than simply selling to them, he soon became known as the best in the business.

Going solo, he made his first million as an independent financial adviser, soon expanding into commercial property.

Mo bought Waterworld from The Rank Group for £1.5 million. After a multi-million pound revamp, he turned it into a national attraction. Waterworld received almost half a million visitors a year – and continues to expand.

Mo’s M Club leisure facilities are run as a foundation, mirroring Mo’s constant desire to support his local communities. When he took over the former Esporta club on the city’s Festival Park, he saved 40 jobs.

Adding The Pulse Group to an already considerable portfolio of businesses means that Mo is now one of the largest employers in the area, supporting up to 500 jobs.

Through Pulse Soccer, Mo is at the forefront of providing high quality and affordable 4G pitches for young footballers in the inner cities.

Mo met wife Ann while working as a bouncer at The Place nightclub in Hanley. Ann has been a cornerstone of the business for more than 30 years.

In 2008, Mo became the only person to receive honorary degrees from both Staffordshire University and neighbouring Keele University in the same year.

He has also been awarded the Star of Pakistan, the highest civil award in Pakistan, which recognises individuals of Pakistani origin for their excellence and positive contributions to the image of Pakistan.

In his home village in Pakistan, Mo supported the Al Amir Foundation School, which teaches around 200 children. By providing the land and financing the start-up, Mo delivered the best possible beginning for children who may otherwise have been denied equal educational opportunities.

Mo is a vocal campaigner against prejudice and injustice, unafraid to challenge political groups and organisations with views abhorrent to the majority.

Mo is a well known columnist on business, social and political matters. He writes monthly for Business Matter magazine and has been featured many times in the national media. Mo has also made several TV appearances as well as spreading his expertise on the radio (To book Mo for a media interview or appearance, please get in touch).

As a consultant, Mo has helped many businesses get off the ground. An expert in backing intuition, Mo’s expertise has helped numerous businesses grow.

Mo’s autobiography will be out soon – watch this space!
