More than 600 businesspeople heard Mo Chaudry’s keynote address at the 2019 Shropshire Chamber Business Awards.
Mo, who was the guest of honour at the county’s largest business gathering of the year, recalled the highlights of his career during a 25-minute Q&A session at the black tie event, held at Telford International Centre.
He spoke about his early years growing up in Shropshire, and the lessons it taught him as he began his journey into business.
Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire after the event, Mo said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by this event – what a fantastic setting, it makes me proud of my connections with Shropshire.
“The message I wanted to get across to the business audience was the importance of believing in yourself. These were all successful business people in the room, so I wanted to transfer my ‘power of three’ philosophy.
“It’s all about extraordinary motivation, taking your chances, and not ever giving up. If you do that, then you have got a magic formula which enables you to change the impossible to possible.”
He added: “It is essential that you have to be prepared to take risks if you are to really succeed. If there is no risk at all, there will be no real wins.
“Theodore Roosevelt said it’s better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all, and I believe that is completely true. Risk is an essential element of enterprise; take your chances, but don’t be afraid of failure. Just pick yourself up if things don’t go to plan, go again, learn from your mistakes, and never give up until you get to your end goal.
“Where there is enterprise, there are jobs, and I’ve been uplifted by the businesses I have seen at this event. The positivity is contagious.”
Richard Sheehan, chief executive of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We were delighted to welcome Mo as our guest of honour this year. He gave an inspirational and motivational message to the business community, full of useful pieces of practical advice to help them succeed.”
